Welcome to Constitution High School, which is scheduled to open September 7, 2006 with an enrollment of 120 ninth graders. We are located in the former Balch Institute of Ethnic Studies building, in the heart of Philadelphia’s Historical District.
The high school has been created through a collaboration and partnership with significant civic and cultural institutions. The school takes advantage of the City of Philadelphia' s unparalleled historical setting and resources by creating an educational program which emphasizes KNOWLEDGE OF HISTORY, ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP, and DEMOCRATIC DELIBERATION.

Course of Studies
Below is our Course of Studies which, to this point, is a working draft. Specific electives, AP (Advanced Placement) and college courses have yet to be determined.
Ninth Grade (8 credits)

Community service requirement as part of one of the above courses – Local theme
Tenth Grade (8 credits)

- AP US History I (2 credits)

Mathematics (Geometry or Algebra II)
AP Biology or Biology
Spanish II
Electives (two credits) :social science (World History must be take sometime between 10-12th grade), arts, foreign language, computer science, physical education (2 credits needed by graduation), new foreign language , college courses
Community Service requirement as part of one of the above course – State theme
11th grade (8 credits)
Social Science
- AP American History II (2 credits)
English
Mathematics – Algebra II or AP Trigonometry
AP Chemistry or Chemistry
Foreign Language Elective: Spanish III or new language
Electives (2 credits): social science (World History must be taken sometime between 10-12th grade), H& PE (2.5 credits needed by graduation), foreign language, computer science, the arts, college credit courses, English
Community Service requirement fulfilled as part of one of the above courses – National theme
12th Grade (8 credits)
English/Social Science Senior Thesis (fulfills Community Service requirement) – 2 credits – International
Mathematics – Trigonometry, AP Trigonometry or AP Calculus
Science – Physics or AP Physics
Electives (4 credits): social science (World History must be taken sometime between 10-12th grade), English, foreign language, arts, computer science, H & PE (2.5 credits needed by graduation), college level courses.

Student Body: 100-125 students per grade level reflecting the diverse demographics of the School District.
Curriculum: College Preparatory; 90 minute classes

Multiple Intelligences Instructional Approach: Activity-based, “hands-on,” performance-based, use of historical documents, integration of subjects, use of the arts in the classroom

Constitution High School is fortunate to have a number of significant partners in the creation and on-going operation of our school. The National Constitution Center and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History are our founding partners. Constitution High School is a City-Wide Admission School which means students are accepted from throughout the city. Pupils must meet the following criteria in order to be a candidate for admission:
- A’s, B’s and C’s on one’s Report Card;
- Ten (10) or fewer school absences or latenesses;
- A positive behavior record;
The application process begins and ends in the fall of each school year. Once students apply and have been identified as candidates for admission, they enter the School District of Philadelphia's lottery system for selection. It is expected that from 100 to 125 students will enter each year as ninth graders. School transfer admissions in the tenth grade is a possibility.
Applications and further information may be obtained from the student’s eighth grade school counselor.

Service Learning
In the first year this unique school has seen we have started life altering projects. We have strated projects called Service Learning and we would like you to share the experience. You can also check out our schools terapad that has a directory of all students and their thoughts on service learning.The students at Con High are creating their own web pages to keep track of their Service Learning Experiences. You can check them out by clicking on the links for each class. You can leave comments in the comment section. Students will be adding more content and pictures through the end of the school year.
